The first book printed in America was "The whole entire book of Psalmes" of course to day the spelling is different but in 1640 when Stephen Daye printed the book in Cambridge Massachusetts the spelling and pronunciation was Psalmes instead of Psalms. It was considered to be a precious and respected book to all the congregation. It is currently located in the Library of Congress.

The first African American book published was a book of poetry written by Phillis Wheatley. Phillis Wheatley was a captured slave brought to American in 1761. Even though slaves were forbidden to read and write at this time she receive favor and grace to publish the first book of poetry.
