The book of Job is amazing. It is a story that troubles readers
because Job is a righteous man who suddenly has a turn of fate. Job goes
through such harsh things it makes me uncomfortable as a Christian. But as a New Testament believer we are
not going to suffer a Job experience. Nor have any of us every
experience such a fate. We know that in Chapter one the bible says he was
a righteous man who feared God. He was respected and honored by God. But the book
does not say that his wife, family, or friends are righteous people.
In the
book of Job we also discover the profile of a wicked person. Job ungodly friends reveal
exactly what the wicked look like when they accuse Job being a wicked man before God. They tell him he is suffering because of his wickedness. But we find
that the opposite is taking place. How well do you know the book of Job and as
we glance through it we are going to look at different perspectives.
Who
is Job?
We know
that Job is righteous and fears God. What really happens in chapter one then?
Let’s
outline those things around him. Job is the only one the bible says who feared
God. Chapter one describes Job in verse 22 (chapter one) Job is blameless,
upright, God fearing, he turns away from evil. He has seven sons, three
daughters, and one wife. He possess 7,000 sheep’s, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of
oxen, 500 female donkeys, many servants, he is called one of the greatest men
in the east. His lifestyle consisted of feasts that he sons would hold, the
daughters were also invited to eat and drink, Job counsel them often, he rose
early in the morning to offer burnt offerings, and Job sacrifice for his family
often. He believed that they could have cursed God and he wanted to make sure
to cover their sins.
Job is blameless but his family is not but this true today some people have unsaved loved and because you love God and God loves you he covers them. In verse 7 the view
point changes to God and Satan. God asked Satan where have you been? Satan
response is that he has been roaming around the earth looking for someone to
devour. Thankfully Job was shielded from the enemy intentions. God really loved
Job. No matter what we read after this we know that God gave Job a house,
possessions, and a righteous life. God goes on to tell Satan have you
considered my servant Job.
What is going in heaven?
God volunteers Job! I
believe that God knew Job loved him and it was just a test. The response is have you not put a hedge
around him and since you gave him all these things of course he fears you but
if you take away his things I am sure that he will curse you to his face. God
removed the hedge and the enemy sets out.
Does Job compromise?
Does Job value things more?
The enemy used the Chaldean's and Seabean's to destroy his
possessions. These people are considered to be thieves and destructive individuals who lack respect for others property. The young people were drinking and enjoying life
when a storm blow through and claimed the property and the lives.
What is Job response?
When Job heard the news he arose and tore his robe. He fell to
the ground and worshiped, he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and
naked I shall return there, the Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the
name of the Lord.” He did not sin and he
didn’t blame God.
1.
The Lord gave the enemy permission but the Lord
did not do it. It was just a test.
Research reveals that sometimes
stress can cause our health to fail. We have marital problems, money problems,
kid problems, we begin to internalize it and then it affects our health. We
shut up our bones and our insides are agitated, there is a discomfort and it
makes us sick. We are doing what is right but things are going wrong.
HEALTHY
It
sucks to suffer
A good
life is one that is happy
A bad
life sucks
But we
keep honoring God
God is
watching
God is
in control
UNHEALTHY
Become bad
Start
doing bad
Turn away
from God
Become
frustrated
Hurt others
because we are hurt
Abandon
the truth
Allow the
enemy to use us
These actions
show that we dislike what God is doing and we are mad at him.
CHAPTER TWO
Job loss of health
Once again
God lets Satan test Job. Satan asks again for permission but he ask if he can touch his body. Wasn’t it
enough to touch his things. But Job continue to bless the Lord and Satan says
now let's tried the body. In chapter two his wife enters into the story and she
is not happy. A good wife supports her husband but Job’s wife seen him scraping
his sores and she is disgusted. She says “why do you keep your integrity?” just
curse God and die. It seems like she was keeping real with him. This situation sucks.
But Job continued on doing the same things he response is “shall we indeed
accept good from God, and not accept adversity” it also states that he did not
sin with his lips.
